Greenpeace Belgium is looking for a Brussels coordinator to support and amplify a grassroot and associative coalition in Brussels in order to implement the Clean Cities Now campaign dedicated to make Brussels cleaner, quieter and more liveable by championing shared, electric and active mobility. 

Summary of the role

The Brussels Coordinator develops, implements and leads the strategy for the Clean Cities Now Campaign’s project in Brussels. The goal of this project is to capitalize on the indirect ‘benefits’ of the COVID19 measures: Belgian cities with less noise, less air pollution and more human mobility (walking, cycling), increased value of public space,nature and green, as well as a reappraisal of public transport. The Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with Greenpeace Belgium, Greenpeace Brussels and other Brussels associations/groups to help realise the vision for the project and to deliver on the project’s objectives. The Coordinator will also amplify and curate a vibrant community and help organizations and citizens to remain aligned in their activities and messaging. The Coordinator will actively contribute to the tactical development of the project and will be leading the detailed planning of outputs.

Your tasks:

 
  • Support and amplify a Brussels coalition active around air pollution and mobility by working together with active groups/associations and integrating new unusual partners (parents associations, health workers, pedestrians groups, etc.).
  • Convene weekly/bi-weekly VC calls of coalition representatives – coordinating agendas and notes.
  • Lead formulation of overall strategy and tactical plans.
  • As necessary, produce and coordinate the production of various materials, both online and offline related to the project.
  • Be the first point of contact of the project for: 
  1. Liaise with associations and grassroots movement on a regular basis. Be the first go-to person for them, offering support and/or connecting people to relevant experts.
  2. Liaise (in consultation with the Belgian Transport Working Group Leader) with external institutions, NGOs and other contacts to collaborate on the project.
  • Help drive forward other identified needs of the project.
  • Coordinate your work with the Belgian Clean Transport Now team, its Mobilisation representative and the local group of Brussels. 
  • Follow-up and report on budget and activities
 

 Your profile: 

 
  • You are motivated by the Greenpeace values and objectives.
  • You know the political and associative/grassroot Brussels landscape. 
  • You are well aware of mobility and air pollution problems and potential solutions in cities/Brussels.
  • You are a native speaker in French/Dutch and comfortable working in French, Dutch and English.
  • You have relevant professional or volunteer experience of leading projects, involvement with citizens, grassroot movements, etc.
  • You are knowledgeable in dealing with group dynamics.
  • You are a team player.
  • You are flexible and ready to work in the evening when necessary (ex. meeting with grassroots movements).

  • A part-time 6 months contract officially based in Brussels but including teleworking options.

Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace.

The Greenpeace Transport campaign started in 2017, under the name Clean Air Now,  and was initially focused on air pollution and cars. Since 2019, this campaign is going on under the name Clean Transport Now with a broader transport scope. City work has been key in this campaign and gets a new impulsion under the umbrella of the Clean Cities Now European project of Transport & Environment.
