Overall purpose of the post

 

To aid the Programme Director (PD) in the smooth running of the Programme Department and in providing long term leadership, strategic direction and oversight for the Programme Department, ensuring campaigns and communications are conducted in the context of global Greenpeace vision and strategy.

 

This includes: to promote an inclusive, supportive environment; to lead, challenge and inspire staff to do their best work, develop and embody Greenpeace values; to support project leaders in the conception and delivery of high-quality, globally-relevant campaigns; to manage programme department staff at all levels, including other managers, as assigned; and to take on the leadership of special projects as and when required.

 

 

The role holder does this by:

 

  • Assisting the PD in overseeing and managing the direction and co-ordination of campaigning activities by Greenpeace Belgium (GPB), ensuring effective integration and liaison with International and other offices; actively participating in the planning of the international campaign programme.

 

  • Assisting the PD in overseeing the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of GPB campaigns and communication (with involvement of Project & Development Specialist).

 

  • Taking responsibility for any budgets in the department delegated by the PD.

 

  • Project work including:

 

    • Strategic scoping of new pieces of work
    • Developing International cluster proposals

 

  • Represent GPB at international meetings

 

  • Maintain high level strategic knowledge and awareness. Spot opportunities for new work or strategic adjustments and bring them to the attention of the PD:

 

    • Stay abreast of international environmental, political and market developments relevant to the GPB and international Greenpeace campaign programme
    • Remain networked into the international organization (Global Campaign Leaders (GCLs) and other NROs) and monitoring developments in the global programme.

 

  • Deputise for the PD on request:

 

    • Fulfil any responsibility covered by the PD as needed.
    • Take decisions and be accountable for them on behalf of the PD where delegated.

 

  • Model and uphold GPB programme departmental values:

 

    • Embrace personal learning, development and application of diversity awareness and model inclusive behaviours to ensure all colleagues and contacts feel respected and treated with dignity, inclusivity and openness. Demand the same from all colleagues.
    • Model and forge stronger international relationships and cross-cultural learning to help make GPB be a more inclusive and better integrated global player.
    • Continuously develop and model best practice international working practice with a special focus on working with colleagues for whom English is not a first language and sensitivity to national and geographically specific factors that affect global teams and inter office, inter team, or inter personal, relationships.

Programme Leadership and professional skills

 

  • Proven ability to deliver results across a range of organisational objectives through the planning, co-ordination and implementation of multiple campaign projects.

 

  • Proven track record of success in a communications and/or public facing campaign environment in the voluntary, private or public sector.

 

  • Proven experience or demonstrable understanding of developing effective internal and external communications strategies.

 

  • Proven experience of developing effective campaign strategies and constructing multiple layer project and implementation plans to deliver strategic outcomes.

 

  • Ability to manage and work with project teams to develop effective campaigns and communications to multiple audiences.

 

  • Experience of working pro-actively with a wide section of communications channels and relating complex messages across diverse platforms.

 

  • Ability to convey a clear vision and communicate it to a wide range of audiences.

 

  • An understanding of both traditional and digital communications, in particular their uses in a campaigning organisation.

 

  • Willingness to (experience an advantage) working cross-departmentally, particularly with fundraising teams, in a collaborative and mutually supportive way.

 

  • Ability to understand and contribute to a wide range of shared organisational goals beyond those of this post.
