Dear Greenpeace Family,

Unfortunately we have to share sad news with you: Benoît Calvi, Action Coordinator and climber, is no longer with us, physically at least. Ben has been fighting cancer for six months but the cancer was too violent, even for him. Surrounded by his family he left for the top of his mountain on Sunday evening.

The whole Greenpeace family is deeply saddened by this loss but we are also grateful that we could spend some time together in these last weeks saying our goodbyes. Ben’s last trip away from home was to the Warehouse in Ghent and he was filled with joy that he could be there with his colleagues and friends at the place where he spent so much time organizing actions and trainings. The Belgian Climbing Team also visited Ben at his place in full climbing gear to spend some moments with him. <3

Ben was a huge inspiration for all action-lovers. He was so young but he has done so much for Greenpeace and the movements he was part of. Let us remember how he stood in life and all the crazy things (les “trucs de dingue”) he has done.

Ben's funeral will be held this Friday 14th of July.

We are invited by Laly and Ben’s family to cycle with him to the cemetery.

Please come as many as you can!

You can wear Greenpeace or colourful outfits.

Timing

- 9h45: Cremation at Uccle crematorium (short ceremony with music but open for everyone)

- 12h: Gathering of cyclists (avenue du Silence 61 à Uccle)

- 12h30: Cycling procession between Uccle and Watermael cemetery

- 13h30: Farewell ceremony at Watermael cemetery (rue du Buis 57 à Watermael-Boitsfort)

We would also like to collect as many photos and testimonials as possible to hand over a book to his family next week. Please add your pictures of Ben on the drive. If you have an anecdote, a memory or a message to pass on, you can leave it here.

We wish all of you, and especially the people that had the honour to do actions and climbing with Ben, a lot of strength and love.
