Peru is nowadays marked by two opposing developments. On the one hand the ????????? industries are ever-growing, causing environmental damage all over ????. The extraction of natural resources, like oil and metals, goes hand in hand with pollution of water, soil and air, which leaves our Mother Earth wounded and creates huge problems for indigenous, peasants and other rural communities. On the other hand, the ?????????? against these industries and resource projects is stronger than ever. All over Peru people stand up to protect their rights and territories from these destructive industries.
In this ?????????? ??????????? ?????? we zoom in on two such struggles, one located in Cajamarca, in the Peruvian Andes, and the second one in Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon.

The department of Cajamarca is the scenery of intense and growing conflicts between small farmer communities and multinational mining companies. An organised resistance builds up but is confronted by fierce repression. The touching documentary presents the raw reality of small-scale farmers who are faced with one of the biggest corruption scandals in Peru.
This documentary is the result of a collaboration between Kolinoh´s Producciones and Plataforma Interinstitucional Celendina (PIC).

Ser Indigena tells the remarkable stories of several young indigenous men and women who travel to the city of Iquitos in the Peruvian Amazon to study. Their aim is to invest in their education so that they can support their communities to protect the Amazon Rainforest threatened by oil extraction. The documentary gives an unique insight into the lives of these young students who share their concerns and ambitions, their hopes and fears.
This documentary is a creation of the Chaikuni Institute.
